HOW CAN SLOW EATING HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT?


A study was conducted with 30 normal-weight women.

In the first part of the study they were served pasta and water and asked to eat until comfortably full.

They were also told to eat as quickly as possible.

On the second visit the same women were served the same meal and again to eat until comfortable fullness.

This time they were asked to eat as slowly as possible and to put down their utensils between bites.

This is what they found when they compared the two visits.

  • When eating quickly the women consumed 646 calories in 9 minutes.

  • When eating slowly the women consumed 579 calories in 29 minutes.


That is 67 less calories in 20 more minutes!

67 calories may not seem like a lot until you add that up time after time, meal after meal ,day after day.

Why would eating slowly cause you to take in less calories ?

That's because it takes twenty minutes from the start of a meal for the brain to send out signals of fullness.

Most people’s meals don’t even last that long!
